The ‘Fire Prevention Week’ at the Bengaluru International Airport was inaugurated by Marcel Hungerbuehler, CEO, BIAL on 14-Apr-09, a day that was observed as ‘Fire service Day’. The event will continue till April 20 and is encouraging the active participation of over 5000 airport employees.

In response to the domestic User Development Fee (UDF) application filed by the Bangalore International Airport Limited, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced (09-Jan-09) that effective 16-Jan-08; all domestic outbound passengers from the Bengaluru International Airport will be charged a UDF of INR260 (inclusive of taxes).

The start-up team of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has reported that the first eighteen hours of Day One operations at the Bengaluru International Airport have been satisfactory in comparison to other such transitions around the world. Bengaluru International Airport was marked operational at 00:01 on 24-May-08 with the take off of Air India Flight IC 957 to Singapore. By the end of the day, the new airport handled 341 air traffic movements, including 172 arrivals and 159 departures.

There had been a panel discussion of the same topic called the Devana Yelli that had been organised by a company where the problems for the connectivity to the airport had been raised.
