Overview - Air India Express Air India Express is a low cost subsidiary of the national flag carrier, Air India. The carrier launched in April 2005 with plans to operate on low yield routes to the Gulf and Southeast Asia. It has replaced Air India on a number of routes and is understood to have been achieving strong load factors. Air India Express operates a single class configuration using B737-800 aircraft, with a current fleet of 16. Following the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines, Air India Express is planning to launch domestic routes from Oct-07 and will absorb the operations of Alliance Air, the regional subsidiary of Indian Airlines.
