| Overview - Blu-express Blu-Express, based at Rome Fiumicino Airport, began operations on 21 Nov-05. The airline is solidly backed with private funding from the owner of Distal & ITR Group (a large ground handling and GSA operation), Franco Pecci.
It is technically a low cost subsidiary of Blue Panorama Airlines - http://www.blue-panorama.com/. The parent was established on 26 Dec-98, with ownership initially split between the Group and Pecci, who subsequently took full ownership of Blue Panorama before the subsidiary was established.
The LCC operates both domestically in Italy and internationally to points in France. A route to Tripoli was briefly operated from May-06.
A strategic goal is apparently to try to exploit the relationship with parent Blue Panorama, with cross-marketing and links between the respective websites, as well as advertising connectivity between the two airlines. Blue Panorama operates a fleet of 5 737-400s, 2 B767-300ERs, 2 B757-200s (and 2 Piaggio P180s), allowing scheduled operations for example to North Africa, the Caribbean, Central America and other points from Rome, Milan and Bologna, in addition to various charter operations to Asia and elsewhere.
