Air India makes its debut at Dubai Air Show with Aerostar
Air India, the country's only multi-faceted civil aviation company with huge presence in engineering and ground handling besides air transportation, made its debut at the Dubai Air show, now on in Dubai till November 19, 2009. Air India, following its strategic marketing alliance with Aerostar Asset Management, a Dubai-based company, has put up a display at the air show to showcase its capabilities for overhauling aircraft engines.

The Engine MRO, branded as "The A Team" will provide engine repair management solutions initially to the operators in the Gulf and Middle-east region. Air India has over 5000 skilled engineers and technicians, besides requisite infrastructure, to undertake engine overhaul and other aircraft engineering works. Whilst Air India has thus far been using its infrastructure for its own fleet and occasional execution of third party work on ad hoc basis, this is for the first time that it has made a concerted foray to secure business on a sustained basis. It will help enhance revenues for the airline.

Air India's engineering base set up in Mumbai in 1966, has the capability to overhaul and repair jet engines such as GE CF6-50 & 80 series, P&W 4000 series, GE-90 series and CFM56-7 series and will also cover CFM56-5 series engine in the near future. The facility has been catering to third party MRO services since 1999 and has the approvals of the Director General of Civil Aviation, India, Federal Aviation Administration, USA, and European Aviation Safety Agency. It is also an ISO rated facility.

Aerostar Asset Management is a company promoted by the ETA Star Group which has a strong presence in the Middle-East. Aerostar has been involved in jet engine management for various customers since 2005.

Air India’s technical expertise in the field of engine overhaul and its elaborate facilities coupled with Aerostar’s capabilities in material management, sourcing and procurement will be the ideal combination for providing high level of customer care, lower repair cost and tighter turnaround time and assured quality that will ensure longer engine time on wing, which will ultimately result in reduced cost of ownership for engine operators.
