Air India IC 884 : enquiry report submitted
The committee constituted by the Air India management to conduct a preliminary enquiry into the incident on board IC 884 of 3rd October 2009, has submitted its report. The committee has come to the following conclusions:
  1. An altercation involving cockpit crew and cabin crew did take place on IC 884 of 3rd October, 2009. The extent of involvement and culpability of each of these individuals would be determined through a regular departmental enquiry.
  2. The Commander and one of the cabin crew had greater involvement as compared to the others in magnifying the altercation. Therefore, the Management has decided to place these two employees under suspension.

The committee has established beyond doubt that the cockpit was not left unmanned at any stage of the flight.

The Management has also constituted a separate five-member committee, headed by a senior woman official, to examine the charges of sexual harassment, which has been levelled by one of the hostesses involved in the incident. This committee, which has begun its investigations today, also has a representative from an NGO, in accordance with the Government guidelines.

While the Management of Air India is committed to a sense of fair play in all its dealings with the employees, any act of indiscipline which tarnishes the image of the airline, is viewed seriously.
