Indian Airlines issued a press release today confirming that the rejuvenation of the carrier continues unabated, and, coupled with its fleet renewal programme, it is now all set to present a younger face of its cabin crew.
Indian's Board of Directors has approved a scheme to permit "not-so-young cabin crew to voluntarily opt for retirement or ground duties”.
The scheme, titled the ‘Voluntary Rehabilitation/Rejuvenation Scheme’, claims it would “help the company improve the passenger perception of the airline”, in keeping with the “demands of a competitive market”.
The scheme is dubbed an “employee-friendly mechanism” to enable cabin crew who wish to stop performing flying duties “to get an attractive compensation package or an alternative employment on ground in the airline, or both”.
Cabin crew who are over the age of 41 years will have the option of leaving the company, if they wish, with a compensation package depending on their age. Furthermore, cabin crew who are below the age of 50 years can opt for ground duties at the discretion of the company.
